Abstract
Youth unemployment in Ekiti state seemed to be on the increase despite the implementation of the youth commercial agricultural development programme (YCAD) which has the YCAD public private partnership as an integral strategy towards youth employment generation. To this end, the study aimed at assessing the extent to which the YCAD public private partnership had effect on youth employment generation in Ekiti state. The Keynesian theory was used to underpin the study and the study adopted the mixed method research design and the sample size of the study was 369. Accordingly, questionnaire and interview were used as instruments for data collection. The study used linear regression analysis to test the research hypothesis after tabular presentation of data. The findings of the study among other things revealed that the YCAD public private partnership had a significant positive effect on youth employment generation but not without challenges such as lack of synergy and proper coordination. It was recommended that the state government should create a body under the ministry of agriculture which will be called Department of Linkages, and should be charged with the responsibility of coordinating the activities of agro allied companies or organizations in the state as well as any other organization that enters into partnership or agreement with the government on promoting youth employment or agricultural practices in any aspect. This will promote synergy among the stake holders.
