The Determinants of Conflict and its Effect on Workers Productivity in Fanco Rice Mills

    Abstract

    Every human gathering poses the propensity of having disagreement which leads to conflict.  Formal and informal organization and association are not left out of this possibility.  When people are assembled to work together as colleagues in a particular organization, there will be a time when matters that has to do with employment agreement and working conditions will bring about loggerheads between the workers and the management of organization. The major objective of this study is to examine the extend at which the working conditions which includes working hours, leave and hazard consideration has led to conflict and affected the productivity of employees of FANCO Rice Mills.  The study adopted the use of questionnaire as the method of data collections using the survey design.  To elicit information from respondent, the study used the Krejcie and Morgan table for the determination of sample size to sample 148 respondents from the total 235 employees of the organization.  A total of 139 questionnaires was returned and only 133 was found usable and complete.  The decision rule was set at 0.05 level of significance. The study found out that poor working condition and refusal of the management to pay bonuses to employee in event of high profit turnover has affected the relationship between management and workers and has affected productivity. The study recommends that FANCO rice mills should look into the working conditions in the organization particularly issues relating to working hours, break, leave, environment of the work and freedom of employees to offer initiatives towards ensuring productivity remains at prime in the organization and prioritize also the welfare of employees of the organization.
