Assessment of the Role of Administrators in Public Policy Process in Kaura Namoda and Zurmi Local Government Areas of Zamfara State

    Abstract

    This research titled “Assessment of the Role of Administrators in Public Policy Process in Kaura Namoda and Zurmi Local Government Areas of Zamfara Sate” aimed at achieving these objectives among others: assess the role of administrators in policy problem identification in Kaura Namoda and Zurmi Local Government Areas of Zamfara State and determine the role of administrators in policy formulation in Kaura Namoda and Zurmi Local Government Areas of Zamfara State. A descriptive survey research design was adopted to collect data from the respondents. The total aggregate population for the study was 2,604 while the total sample size was 270. The instrument used for the collection of data was questionnaire. The instrument was validated by experts in the department of public administration Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria and Supervisors of this research work. Stratified sampling technique was employed for this study. Inferential statistics was used to analyze the data and a bench mark of 3.0 and above was set for acceptance of the outcomes of the result while anything less than 3.0 was set for rejection. The findings of the study revealed that Administrators played a prominent role in policy problem identification in Kaura Namoda and Zurmi Local Government Areas of Zamfara State. This was supported by the aggregate mean of 3.1 on table 1 and the role of administrators in policy formulation in Kaura Namoda and Zurmi Local Government Areas of Zamfara State was too minimal for its impact to FUGUS Journal of Public Administration and Management | Vol. 2, No. 1 | ISSN: 2811-1699| Oct, 2023 189 be felt. This was supported by the aggregate mean of 2.4 on table 2. It was therefore recommended that when making public policy, administrators should clearly identify the root cause of the problems by developing a detailed problem statement that includes the problem’s effect on the lives of the entire population of Kaura Namoda and Zurmi Local Government Areas and when formulating any policy, there must be a set of alternatives to address a problem and reduce a number of possible solutions involved in preparing the final policy decision. However, effectiveness, costs, benefits, risks, uncertainty, ethics, political feasibility, administrative feasibility and among others should always be taken into consideration during formulation of public policy in Kaura Namoda and Zurmi Local Government Areas of Zamfara State.
