Abstract
This
study examined the assessment of capacity building programmes on employee
performance in University of Ilorin in Kwara State. The study investigated the
relationship between workshop training, academic sponsorship and ICT training
on employee performance. Survey research design was adopted. The study was carried
out in Kwara State. The study collected data from both primary and secondary
sources. The population of the study comprised 143 academic staff of University
of Ilorin in Kwara State. Rao soft online calculator using 95% confidence level
and 5% level of significance was employed to determine the sample size of 105.
The study used questionnaire as the tool for obtaining necessary data for the
research. Data analysis was facilitated using the statistical package for the
Social Sciences (SPSS). Simple percentage was used in answering their search
questions, while chi-square statistics was used in testing the hypotheses. From
the analysis it was discovered that workshop training affect employees'
performance, academic sponsorship affects employees' performance and Information
and Communication Technology affect employees' performance in University of
Ilorin in Kwara State. The study concludes that concluded that effective
training of academic staff will significantly improve their performance, in the
same vein, it will enhance their productivity in terms of meeting up with the
required goals of the institution. The study
recommended among others that government should implement a policy that will
encourage ongoing staff training and development in order to better realize
employee potential because quality workshop training, academic sponsorship, and
ICT training ensure that identified employee skill gaps are properly captured. Government
should establish and provide adequate funding for a committee that will oversee
the policy's implementation, monitoring, and evaluation and that government
should allocate sufficient funds and introduce new technology to replace the
outdated one.
