Abstract
This study investigates the imperative of digital platforms in enhancing employee retention in the Borno State Civil Service, a region challenged by insecurity, economic instability, and infrastructural deficiencies. Specifically, it examines whether integrating digital tools can mitigate turnover by improving job satisfaction, engagement, and operational flexibility. A quantitative research design was adopted, collecting data through structured questionnaires from 375 civil servants selected using a proportionate stratified sampling technique, with analysis conducted via SPSS V.27 and linear regression. The findings reveal that the use of digital platforms significantly enhances employee retention, indicating that employees are more likely to remain in the organization when they can work remotely and safely, despite threats from Boko Haram and banditry. Regression results show a strong positive relationship (β = 0.827, p < 0.05), with digital platform usage explaining 68.4% of the variance in employee retention. Based on these findings, it is recommended that the Borno State Civil Service integrate digital platforms into its operational framework, provide adequate ICT infrastructure, and implement flexible work policies, virtual collaboration tools, and online professional development programs. These measures will support employee engagement, foster loyalty, and ensure the effective delivery of public services in a high-risk environment.
